AVAHO Committees

AVAHO has six (6) active committees that provide advice, innovation, and stability to AVAHO's Board of Directors and members. Committees are an integral part of AVAHO's success. We are always accepting applications for new committee members, and encourage all members to apply.

Advocacy Committee

Chair: Liz Hansen, PharmD, BCOP

Meets once monthly
Committee Description

The Advocacy Committee monitors legislation and policy that affects VA employees, veterans, and cancer care. With the help of a legislative expert, this committee provides members with information, action items, and advocacy support to ensure the best in veteran cancer care for providers and their patients.

Communications Committee

Chair: Rusty Crawford, BPharm (Ret.)

Committee Description

The Communications Committee is tasked with overseeing the communications efforts of AVAHO both internally (member-focused) and externally (public). This includes creating or securing content for quarterly newsletters and creating social media content.

Education Committee

Co-Chairs: Taylor Scialo, MS, RD, CSO and Kourtney LaPlant, PharmD, BCOP

Committee Description

AVAHO's Education Committee is charged with overseeing and producing quality educational opportunities for AVAHO members, including ongoing CE-eligible opportunities. Additionally, the Education Committee oversees the annual Abstract process and evaluation process to ensure high quality, relevant education to AVAHO members.

Finance Committee

Chair: Brian Do, PharmD, BCOP

Meets quarterly
Committee Description

The Finance Committee reviews AVAHO's revenue and expenditures, ensuring both are congruent with the organization's annual budget. The Committee is also tasked with making recommendations regarding investments and financial accounts.

Membership Committee

Chair: Tanya Arnold, MSN, APRN, FNP-c

Meets monthly

The Membership Committee ensures new and renewing AVAHO members have a meaningful experience as part of the AVAHO network. This includes hosting new member orientations, creating ongoing networking experiences for members, and serving as organizational ambassadors to answer questions or share information with potential and new members.

Program Committee

Co-Chairs: Cindy Bowman, RN, MSN, OCN and Paige May, PharmD, BCOP

Meets monthly with more frequent meetings July-September

The Program Committee is the committee responsible for AVAHO's Annual Meeting held each Fall. This committee works throughout the year to choose topics and speakers that represent all of AVAHO's members, including multidisciplinary sessions.
